Installing OEM LED Myotek Jeep Wrangler Fog lights: What you need to know

Starting in 2019 the Jeep Wrangler included an optional LED fog light from the Jeep factory. But what if your current jeep doesn’t have those LED fog lights or what if you want to add them to your older Jeep Wrangler JK? Well, in the following paragraphs we’ll show you what you need to do in order to install the OEM LED Myotek Jeep Wrangler fog light housings on the JK that didn’t include them from the factory.

OEM Fog Bulb Style

When installing the OEM Myotek fog lights in your Jeep Wrangler JK, it’s important to understand that the JK has different fog light bulbs depending on the year. In 2007-2008, the JK used 9145 incandescent bulbs in the fog lights. Starting in 2009-2019, the JK fog lights switched to 2504 bulbs. These bulbs feature completely different connectors and look like this:

Now, the idea of the aftermarket fog lights would be to make connections hook up to these original incandescent bulb connections. When installing OEM Myotek fog lights it may be challenging tell what kind of connection they really have. Looking directly at the back of the housing it’s difficult to know if it’s 9145 or 2504. The connection is actually a 2504 or perhaps a 5202 connection.

The link with the rear of the Myotex LED fog light for that Jeep Wrangler JK is, in fact, a 2504 wiring connection.

If you are installing these OEM fog lights in a 2007-2008 Wrangler JK, you'll need one extra part to help make the install plug and play. Because the Myotek LED fog light comes direct having a 5204 connection, you’ll have to add an adapter harness to convert the 5204 wiring of the fog light to the 9145 wiring in your 07-08 Jeep. This adapter wire harness converts the 5204 wiring to 9145 wiring.

Anti-Flicker Harness

LED fog light installs really are a little different within the 2009-2019 Jeep JK becasue during these years, not just did the bulb style switch to a 2504 bulb, the entire wiring system within the JK also changed. Within the 2009-2019 Jeep Wrangler JK, the fog light system uses PWM, pulse width modulation, along with a CANBUS system to manage and monitor the fog lights. You would think that since the Myotek LED fog lights also provide 2504 wiring you could directly plug them in to the 09-17 Jeep Wrangler. But if you were to plug in your incandescent bulb wiring for an LED socket, the lights will strobe and flicker. To solve this issue, a couple of things are essential: the adapter wire harness mentioned previously, and an inline anti-flicker harness. That set-up would look like this:
